Witty's Lagoon is a regional park located in the lovely community of Metchosin. The park consists of 5km of moderate walking trails through woodland, salt marsh, beach, and waterfall. Highlights of the park include Sitting Lady Falls, a large, sandy beach, and Witty's Lagoon.
The trail to the main beach is a moderate 1.2 km walk and leads to a large beach and a grassy area with picnic tables. This beach along Parry Bay has a stunning view of the Juan de Fuca Straight, the stretch of water separating Vancouver Island from Washington State in the U.S.
While many of the trails of the park are moderate difficulty, there are a few accessible areas. The Nature Center and Teaching Center are accessible and close to accessible toilets. The nature center is near the main parking lot and is open 12 - 4 pm Saturdays, Sundays and Holiday Mondays. Tower point has a user-friendly 500-meter trail that leads to ocean and mountain views. The teaching shelter can be accessed by a 300m trail off the Montessori School parking lot.
This a great spot for bird watchers as the official website for the park cites that there are some 160 species of bird have been spotted around Witty's Lagoon. The park has a large salt marsh which is a great location to observe many different birds.
It's a less visited part of Vancouver Island compared to some of the most popular destinations which will make it ideal for a peaceful day out. Driving from downtown Victoria will take about 35 - 45 minutes depending on traffic.
