The Victoria Experience

The Complete Guide to Victoria, British Columbia

Victoria Water Taxis

Time to Explore: 1-2 hours

Prices: $$

When exploring Victoria for the first time you'll invariably find yourself near the inner harbour or crossing one of the two bridges close to downtown. Looking across the water you'll see one of the main tiny water taxis that criss-cross harbour up to the Gorge, a popular part of the estuary that goes out to sea.

The squat watercraft potter along a fair rate of knots taking tourists and locals to various landings to disembark near attractions. Some of the trips are short pleasure rides that provide a short-cut alternative to the busy roads. Other trips are longer to get further up the estuary, servicing local commuters or giving access to well less known local destinations.

The company also offers guided tours. Each taxi is piloted by a knowledgeable local who has a wealth of local history to share. These are slightly more expensive but are longer cruises around the local waterways. You'll learn about both the Victorian origins of the city and some of the most recent developments in the city.

The Victoria Harbour Ferry is currently closed for the winter and will re-open in the spring.
